Definition of the rubric
In the structure of the Organum, “Modus” designates the method itself, the modus operandi. It is under this rubric that the elements of methods, methodological guides, forms, etc. can be found.
Modus is structured in accordance with the PRO3 schema (pronounced: “pro cube”).
Content of the rubric
What are we talking about? What is the object that we are building or transforming?
Whatever the size of the object in question, its place is within the “Product” dimension: from the application or the software component to the enterprise itself or systems more vast.
We think that the question “What” comes first, before the question “How”. We need to know what material we are dealing with before we can determine how to deal with it.
The methodology answers this question in terms of a methodological framework, modeled in the metamodel, the model of models which express rigorously all that can be said in terms of methodologie ; the metamodel reflect with modeling decisions the methodological thoughts.
Once the object to be worked on has been analyzed, we can raise the question of “how.” The “Processes” chapter of the methodology is responsible for this question, taking into consideration its collective dimension. We can find in this rubric:
- the development process;
- the transformation process (broader than the first);
- and other processes which accompany and govern the building or the transformation of the Enterprise System.
It is not enough to answer the question of “how” at the collective level, the process level. It needs to be dealt with at the individual level too. When a manager gives an operative a job sheet, the latter must be able to do his/her job following the indications of the method. He/she will not find them in the form of a process but, at a more detailed level, through procedures and methods. We call “procedure” a method or procedure which explains how to do certain jobs. More often than not, a procedure pertains to a discipline.
